Have you ever been to Kronstadt? This small town is located just 30 km from Saint Petersburg, and its fame has resonated since its foundation up to the present day. For over 300 years, Kronstadt has been known to people far and wide. Peter the Great founded this town—a fortress and port—in 1704 to protect Saint Petersburg from enemies approaching from the Baltic Sea during the Great Northern War. Even today, this small town continues to attract worldwide attention.

Navy Day

 

Last Sunday of July Kronshtadt traditionally celebrates Navy Day. Celebration program of this day consists of the following events: ships parade, water and sports competitions, concert of creative collectives of St.-Petersburg and Kronshtadt.
 Visiting of navy ships and boat trips on harbors with an excursion «Forts of Kronshtadt» are organized for the citizens and guests of the town. Everybody has an opportunity to attend a naval weapon exhibition and Kronshtadt museums. A shot from the memorial canon is usually made at midday. There are a lot of different cultural-entertaining events, sport games and various contests during the whole day. At the end of the celebration there is a firework show.
