Have you ever been to Kronstadt? This small town is located just 30 km from Saint Petersburg, and its fame has resonated since its foundation up to the present day. For over 300 years, Kronstadt has been known to people far and wide. Peter the Great founded this town—a fortress and port—in 1704 to protect Saint Petersburg from enemies approaching from the Baltic Sea during the Great Northern War. Even today, this small town continues to attract worldwide attention.
Kronshtadt's Birthday
On the 18th of May Kronshtadt traditionally celebrates its Birthday! The celebration begins by a march-parade of the Kronshtadt military school cadets from the Soviet street to Yakornaya ploshchad (Anchors square). There is a solemn ceremony of putting flowers to the monument of Peter the Great, the founder of Kronshtadt. |

During the whole day citizens and guests of the town celebrate on Anchor square. The program of the event comprises concert of stage masters from Kronshtadt and St.Petersburg, different amusing competitions, games and performances of Kronshtadt children's creative groups. At the end of the celebration a festive firework is set off. |
